Are you on your path – leaving a legacy you own

September 4, 2015

Legacy, defined as anything handed down from the past, a gift is something not much discussed but has much significance. We are here, the grand scheme of things, for a short while. Do we want to be remember for who we were, what we achieved, what we stood for? Do we want to be remembered at all? Surely, yes.

So what sort of legacy would you like to leave behind? What memories would you like others to have of you, who you were and what you did?

Making the world a better place could be an example of a desirable legacy. What does this mean? What role would you have in achieving such a legacy? Would you be someone who learns and teaches? Would you be someone who comes to the aid of others when they are most in need? Would you be someone who makes peoples lives fun and enjoyable?

Ultimately, the more wonderful the legacy you wish to achieve, the more time and energy you will need to invest in it. Begining with a “big hairy audacious goal” may help. Learning all there is to learn will certainly set you up for success. That’s how Warren Buffet become one of the most successful investors the world has ever known. He spent his early years in the library, reading every book there was to read on stocks and shares.

So what’s your legacy? Talk to those around you if you are stuck for ideas. They may help you explore what you good at, what makes you jump out of bed in the morning, and what is most likely to make you run a mile. Using this knowledge you should be able to form a pretty strong vision of that parting gift you will leave for the world and all those on it.
