State controls behaviour. Your state controls your behaviour. So if you choose to be in a calm and productive state, you are more likely to achieve. If you choose to be in a stressed state, you are more likely to miss your target. It’s how you are designed. Your body is designed to function optimally in a calm and productive manner, in a calm and productive state. You might not like what you read but it’s the truth. After all, this is your lived experience – is it not? You know you enjoy what you are doing when you are calm and productive. You feel motivated, energised and fulfilled. So you’ve probably heard and read about living in the moment. What came up for you in that moment when you came across that phrase “living in the moment”? I ask because it’s not my moment or anyone else’s moment – it’s yours. And it’s your call, your choice, what you do with it. You either adopt a calm and productive state and enjoy your experience. Or you don’t. You can change your state through your breathing. We all know this. Breathe quickly and rapidly and you enter a state of heightened awareness, a stressed state. Breathe slowly and deeply and you enter a state of calm awareness, a productive state. So what’s it to be? You can either choose calm and productive or stressed and unfulfilled. So breathe.
