So you want to live to 100?

September 4, 2015

I only ask because no-one else has. Well have they?

This question arose after I read an article in The Independent, published Thursday 4 June 2015, in which it refers to a claim that doctors have found a way to predict an individual’s risk of dying in the next five years. The article refers to a new “Ubble” questionnaire which provides those between 40 and 70 years old a mortality risk “score” and even an alternative “Ubble”. The scores are based on an analysis of health information from over half a million adults in the UK, carried out by experts at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. Moreover the test has been used on 35,000 patients in Scotland and found to have almost 80% accuracy.

Anyone wanting to try out the test can check out www.ubble.co.uk.

The focus here is planning ahead. There is much evidence that we rarely plan. We think we do. Some may do it in their heads. But many don’t. Why should they? Those they grew up with didn’t. No-one else around them did? So what are the benefits of planning ahead?

Well the more you plan, the more you prepare for both the expected and the unexpected. You know what you need and what you want. You are clear about your priorities and how best to achieve them. You are focused in how you use your time, your energy and yourself.

Leading a balanced lifestyle enhance both your quality of life and also your quantity, enabling you to achieve more, explore more and enjoy more. Moreover, through planning ahead you are able to maintain perspective on what matters most and what can be easily deferred to another day, another week, another month, another year. Imagine the amount of stress you could avoid through not feeling the need to do everything immediately, by feeling more at ease in the knowledge that you are happy with life where it is and that you are ready for another day when the next priority will become the focus.

A healthy mind results in a healthy body. Thus through keeping it simple and investing in yourself through a good diet (healthy fuel), good exercise (healthy engine) and good mindset (healthy steering) you can guarantee your journey of life will lead you to where you want to go.
